ATITool won't save voltage or fan settings

I have a 2900pro that's flashed with the 2900xt bios. I'm using ATITool v. 27 beta 4. I made sure to check the boxes under both saved settings to make them save voltages and fan settings as well.

I have one profile for 2d and one for 3d. I want 2d to drop the gpu voltage to .8, but it won't do that when I load the profile. If I got to the voltage screen and load the profile's voltage there, it works. However, it will load the higher voltage when I load the 3d profile.

Can anyone make sense of this? Is there another way I can undervolt my card when it's not running 3d apps. I don't care too much about the fan settings.

I don't have ccc installed. I tried it last night, and it wouldn't give me any overclocking options.

This is probably better asked in the Techpowerup ATitool forum however I will say that voltage control on R6xx's with any ATItool version is pretty poor if at all functional, ATItool really needs to be updated and it hasn't been. ATI cards automatically lower the voltage when in 2D mode, there is no need to 'set it' to do that. Alternatively I would suggest you download this program in which you can edit your BIOS for 2D/3D modes to whatever you want- no need to muck around with 3rd part software. Also I would use Rivatuner for fan control but the BIOS editor has also added this in the recent 1.09 version so use that.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I had already flashed the bios from 2900Pro to 2900XT, and I still had everything on my flash drive for that. I just had to edit that bios file and flash it again.

Now I've got it undervolting to .8v and underclocking to around 400/400 for 2D. For 3D it puts it back up to 1.15v (stock for 2900XT) and overclocks it to 806/1053.

It was getting really annoying for my video card to hit 70 degrees from just normal 2D usage. When I would set it at .8v, it would keep it below 50.

Thanks a bunch!

Nice work. I have a 2900pro in a well-ventilated case (CM-690). Unmodded it idles at about 50C in 2D mode, which annoyingly is the transition between silent (25%) and audible (31%) fan speeds. As a result it cycles between the two fan speed - not what I want when it should be quiet at idle.

I've flashed to set the 31% fan threshhold at 60C, which eliminates the fan speed cycling, but allows the GPU to warm up to 55C at idle. Was concerned that reducing VDDC from 1.0V would affect stability, but it seems you've got 0.8V working, so will give it a try myself.
