ATI's ultra fast IGP-RS780 Preview

Here's a preview of an integrated IGP that is set to blow away all the current IGPs out there. Take a look:

"RS780?s IGP will offer roughly 3X - 4X the 3D performance of the current 6-series chipsets."

"it was able to play Call of Duty 4 at over 30FPS at 1024x768 with just the IGP, and in Hybrid CrossFire mode performance jumped to over 50FPS. We also saw Unreal Tournament 3 running on the same system. With the IGP alone, UT3 ran at about 27FPS at 1024x768 and scaled to 45FPS in Hybrid CrossFire mode."

From 3DMark scores, the RS780 IGP with Phenom will perform somewhere very close to a discrete 8400GS and HD2400XT.

It's rumored to come this month. From the 3DMark score, this will beat the Intel GMA X4500 IGP coming out spring of this year quite significantly(don't even mention games LOL).

Too bad there won't be an Intel version. That would be a hot combo.
Too bad the next gen Nvidia igp keeps getting delayed. Their 6100 7025 and 7050 igp solutions were too weak play newer games.

I will buy at least one of those new 780G mobos. Bought a pair of X2-4000's in Nov. They do 3100+ in the GA-MA69GM-S2H on the bench right now. I couldn't wait any longer for those 780 boards.

Have some recent builds with the 690G, 400Mhz or 500Mhz 4 pipe X700 based graphics core. Playing smooth Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 2 (800x600 medium), and Stalker (1024 medium static lights) with a 3.4Ghz Conroe celeron on an Abit Fatal1ty F-i90HD.

In the OCWorkbench forum, someone has posted pics of ten 780G boards, taken from the Chinese site, pcpop.com. No doubt just a few of these will show in the U.S., like the Asus, ECS, Biostar and perhaps SuPOX offerings.

It seems odd that while a driver issue has delayed AMD's release of the 780G chipset here until late February or March, they are going ahead with the Jan. 23 launch in China (apparently using early adopters in China as beta testers).
