ATi's RMA service.

My 9800 Pro 128MB just went nutz on me. It would show the windows loading screen then all of a sudden the screen goes blank. 5 seconds later it comes back on but all I see is scribble scrabble. I filled out ATi's online rma request and just got an RMA number from them. I remember when filling out the form that they only had 1 option....to repair the card. My question is do they actually try and repair the card or do they just send me a new 9800 pro?

it depends . . . . . the repair or replace is their option . . . . . their service is ok considering it is "international" (you send to NY for USA customers) . . . . i was satisfied after my r8500-128MB died . . . . the replacement looked like a new one . . . . whatever, it worked great 🙂

I doubt they will even try to repair any of RMA they get. Because all the RMA I got from ATI took less than 2 days (excluding shipping time). I doubt they can even find out what the problem of the card is within just 2 days.

here in canada, they have an rma replacement program through their resellers. so for example, if you buy a retail card from an authorized reseller and keep your receipt for the three years, and you need a replacement, the store can do it for you. if the store no longer carries the card, you might have to go through ATI, but if the store clerks wanna be nice, they can upgrade it for you (only if your card is so old that it's no longer being made).

edit: not that it's of any use for your case, but I just thought some canadian readers may browse through here.

I will hit 20 days since I sent my card in for repair tomorrow. I was told they could
not repair it, and would be sending me a replacement; but according to them
an attempt at repair was made.

Other people here and elsewhere have also reported fast turnaround on RMAs
from ATI. So I think I was just unlucky to fall thru the cracks.

that's what they wanted to do with mine . . . i bitched enough by e-mail and they sent a replacement (new?!) by 2nd day air . . . gone for just over a week total . . .

their FAQ says "up to 30 days" for RMA turnaround 😛
