Over the past few months on occasion my PC will fail to wake from sleep, causing me to shut it down via the power button. It doesn't happen every time, just occasionally.

However this morning the Failed Wake from Sleep caused a BSOD.

BSOD Info:

"Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed"

Technical Info:
atikmpag.sys - Address FFFFF88004887D88 base at FFFFF8800487C000, DateStamp 52a231d9

Stop 0x00000116 (0xFFFFFA800B8C34E0, 0xFFFFF88004887D88, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002)

I never have any other problems with this PC (PC Hardware Info in my Sig), just the occasional Fail to wake from sleep, this failed wake resulted in this BSOD.

Thanks in Advance

PS My Catalyst version = 13.12
Driver version = 13.251

In this case, I would suspect either your RAM or your Video controller is screwing the system. Try to check your memory with MemTest86 and find out what results you will have.

Thanks for the Replies.

I ran a Sapphire HD 4850 on this PC for years, never had the problem. I upgraded to my present HD 7850 2 months ago, ever since I get the occasional Wake from Sleep Failure, so I'm pretty certain the problem is 7850 related.

And yes ketchup79 that Thread is exactly it. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like anyone came up with a Fix and are pretty much blaming it on the ATI GPU Driver.

So looks as if I'll have to put up with it til' ATI finally repairs their Driver.

Thanks for the Help

Thanks for the Reply denis280. I'm not really sure what you mean by "Clean" Installation. When I installed the 7850:

I first uninstalled the 4850 (Catalyst Install manager in Programs), then booted into safe mode and used Driver Sweeper to remove All ATI Video Stuff. Then shut-down the PC

Then Physically Installed the 7850, started the PC, then installed a brand new up to date ATI Driver.

So I would say yes, it was a 'clean' Install.

I have not tried using an Older Driver, that is definitely a possibility, first though I think I'll do a re-install of this up to date driver.

Reinstall Steps:
1. Run AMD Catalyst Install manager from Programs and uninstall everything.
2. Reboot into Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper (Driver Fusion) to clean up everything.
3. Boot into Windows then install new ATI Driver.

I think I'm following the proper steps to do a 'Clean' Install, am I ?

Thanks

Try reverting back to a much more stable catalyst driver package other than using the latest beta version. And find out if you still have the same issues.
