ati2dvag infinite loop error

Hello everyone. I just got a new 9600XT and was hoping to enjoy higher fps in CS-Source but I can't seem to keep the system running for more than a couple min. before I get the BSoD with the ati2dvag infinite loop error. I was using a Geforce4 440 before with no issues like this. I uninstalled my drivers for the old card before putting the new one in. I installed the new drivers via the disc that it came with. Now I can barely do anything before I get the error. I searched on google and came across a few people that changed something (quoted below) so I did it. The comp is running without any errors now but since I did that and I check in my card display settings the AGP is set at off...have I lost most all the performance of the card by doing this and is there any other way to stop this problem?!?! Thanks guys!

****What I found on google****
Device Manager
Click [+] next to System devices
right-mouse on CPU to AGP Controller (or whatever your controller is called, mine was SiS AGP)
Update Driver(button)

Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Next(button)
Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.
Next(button)
Select PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Next(button)
Finish(button)
Reboot.

i just had this... mine was crashing before the computer would even boot all the way through. just started doing it last night. ended up reinstalling windows. then i put on service pack 2. then installed graphics drivers and got the same problem. i ended up doing what is suggested here. i'm not sure if i've lost performance or not due to it, though, as i didn't have previous benchmark numbers.

I would uninstall your ATI drivers,boot into safe mode and run Driver Cleaner and select "Nvidia" first to remove any left over Nvidia registry files,then run Driver cab cleaner and finally Driver Cleaner for "ATI",boot to normal desktop after and install latest ATi drivers,I would also reinstall your SiS AGP driver(since it seems you`ve a SiS chipset board?) after as well.

Are you overclocking anything? Do you have the latest BIOS & chipset drivers installed for your system?

Turn off fast writes. Possibly try switching to AGP4x mode.

the latest chipset drivers didn't fix it.

for me it happened with a computer that had been freshly formatted.

it had never done this in the year and a half that i've owned it (notebook computer, dell 600m)
