My friend has an ATI 1950pro. After a few minutes of playing RFactor the screen goes black and he has to reboot. After going in the game for just a few mins to look at the menus the card goes to 56C. Is that too hot?

My X1900XTX gets as high as 90c under load from time to time, so I'd say 56c under load isn't too bad even for the cooler running Pro ... might be a driver issue.

I believe by default these cards dont even kick the fan speed past %50 until the temps are above 55c so this would be a normal temp. If you want to lower it, try ATI Tools or ATI Tray Tools and adjust the fan settings to have them kick in sooner and speed up a little faster. That should keep your temps in the low 50's or high 40's. Mine manage to stay in this range just by setting the fans to %60 at 50c.

Use the latest version of ATI Tray Tools... I managed to get the core on my Asus x1950 pro up to 641 from 580 whie staying around the 70c mark, I was pleasantly surprised after all the rumours about how this card doesn't overclock well.

Make sure you disable low level overclocking and use driver level instead. Low level made my system lock up and crash if I even raised it 1 notch on the memory side.
