Right now, these are going on newegg at sapphire 199 oem, and 209 retail.

1) What's the diff between the oem and retail? Is the oem just the card and that's it?

2) The 6800gs is selling for around the same price, -$20.

Out of the box wise, I'm pretty sure the xt850 beats the 6800gs.

But my question is, by how much?

And which one is more future proof? I beelieve the xt850 is, but I don't know how well it overclock.

Plus, I think I wouldn't want to overclock a sapphire card cuz if I believe right, overclocking overrides the warrantee

oem vs retail : nothing much

oem doesn't carry a nice retail box and some extras (games, promo, stickers, etc). Otherwise, it's no difference. I'm sure that a x850xt can reach x850xt pe speeds quite easily, x850xt/xtpe having the same HSF lol 🙂.

I have a Build By Ati X850XT (although made by sapphire lol) AGP. It works wonders ^_^

the x850xt is generally a bit faster but lacks SM 3.0 . . . OEM doesn't have the retal box . . . neither is more "future proof"


and my x850xt o/c's past PE speeds [550/614] . . .some don't

you NEED to unlock and o/c the GS to [almost] match the xt's performance . . . not all will.

Don't kid yourself. Shader 3 is hardly more then a novelty in the mid range cards at the moment. What's more, a X850XT beats out a 6800 Ultra. A 6800GS hardly matches the latter, much less the former. If unlocking and overclocking is your thing get a GTO2 instead for $141 in hot deals. Hell, even at $179 at Newegg is a pretty sweet X850XT in disguise.

And I would never buy a videocard based on what it might overclock to.

I have gone through tons of videocards and, in my experience, most do not overclock to any signifcant stable degree. YMMV but I doubt it. 😛

A little OT but I just ordered one of the 144$ 100130 GTO2's and have a question. They come unlocked apparantly but is there any advantage to modding them with an X850XT/PE bios? or should I just oc the card... do the XT's/PE's have higher volts/dif memory settings?
