Yes, you are correct.
Since the ATi 8500 and 9100 (same thing) are faster than the ATi 9200, and the xpress200 uses ATi x300, and the x300 compares to ATi 8500/9100, yes, onboard is noticably faster than standalone 9200. If you had a 9200se, onboard would be MUCH faster.

umm..it seem unprobable that hypermemory would be faster than 9200 with dedicated memory... on benchmarks, x300 runs >2x faster than x300hypermemory

I want to say that it got an 1100 in 3dmark03, whereas my ti4200 was getting a 1450 or so. On the other hand, this is a DX9 card where the 4200 was only a dx8. I think when I used the compare feature in the ORB of 3dmark, it was about dead even with a 9200.

Farcry was the only game we tried on it. I thought it was playable, but most people on this board's standard of barely playable is far higher than mine.

TI4200 is alot more powerful than ATI express 200..
benchmarks don't reflect the truth all the time.
It also depends on the game. TI4200 is slow with DX9 but very fast with DX8.

My most recent upgrade path has been Ti4200 128MB-> 9600XT 128MB -> Xpress 200 IGP 256MB shared. 9600XT was definately a step up from Ti4200. Though there was a fairly big platform upgrade, Xpress 200 feels a tad slower than the 9600XT. This is from my first hand experience using all three. Platform's a huge confounding factor, but that said, your average machine using Xpress 200 will outperform your average machine using a Ti4200.

One thing to note is that some Xpress 200 boards have dedicated memory in addiiton to the shared memory.

wow. hard to believe igp outperform dedicated ..
well, you may be right then, since you have first hand experience.

be careful, the 1710nx doesn't have a particularly beefy power supply, i wouldn't put anything much faster than an x700 or 6600 vanilla in it.

Why would most state xpress200 has no dedicated memory?????
You are wrong, at least with some boards.
For example, the Jetway a210 Pro has 32 megs onboard dedicated video memory, plus what ever you assign from system.

Take a look at madonion ORB under xpress200.
You see my onboard scoring 2096 in 3dm2k3 (#2 overall :))

While I say how great the onboard is, it is not faster than Ti4200.
As stated in prior post, it compares to GF3 Ti200, and is a little slower than GF3 Ti500.
Still, for onboard, it sets a new standard that so far the nvidia onboard hasn't been able to reach, even with their new 6150 chipset.

"If the 200 is powerful enough, I want to return the 7800 and save my money for something else. Thanks and LMK."

it is in my opinion, but i don't have warcraft (monthly fees thumbs down icon)

"can likely play them but not at any respectable framerate or image quality."

disagree. now playing hl2 @ 1024x768 high settings

"be careful, the 1710nx doesn't have a particularly beefy power supply, i wouldn't put anything much faster than an x700 or 6600 vanilla in it."

he probably upgraded the power supply already, as these systems only come with 20 pin ps?

I was talking about Warcraft 3. I'm already a poor college student with enough expenses xP... Anyways, this onboard video is faulty, and now I have to freaken swap with Compusa for another computer. Sigh... The onboard video does play wc3 and cs perfectly... However, I'm going to stop eating for a bit and get a X800 of some sort (trust me, I'll have the funds in a week cause campus food is EXPENSIVE).

the msi boards in these computers do seem to have some issues, but right now i think its because of the bios

I'd say just stick with the onboard. It seems to work fine. Save your money.

The sr1710nx comes with a 250 watt Delta ps. 14 amps on the 12v rail. I *think* I might be able to run a real video card off of it. I'm gonna give it a shot, anyway. It is a 20+4 pin power supply, and the motherboard uses both connectors.

As far as performance, expect about 500 3dmark05s. Depends on how good your ram is (card uses nothing but system ram). The bios does not have any overclocking options.

1024x768 may be hoping for too much. But 800x600 on low or medium should be fine, so long as you don't enable FSAA.

Oh, and the X600 is the PCIe version of the 9600. The X300 is quite bit slower. The IGP is a slightly downclocked X300SE, about 10% slower overall. But at the performance level of these cards, 10% translates to a frame/sec in most games or so. In other words, lost in the noise.

1/10th the performance of the 7800GT. You make the call if that's good enough for you or not.

The onboard video crashes while under load. For instance, if I run CS or Warcraft, I have a 90% chance of the video card crapping out on me while playing, therefore I have to turn off the computer and reboot it manually. When I say crap out, the screen becomes distored and everything freezes. Artifacts ALL over the screen. I already contacted Compusa and they said that they would exchange the computer for me, but I had to go through alot before they came to this decision (I already sent the UPC out for the rebates). They should be regarded as @!$%usa. Anyways, I'm going to have to upgrade the video card regardless, because the onboard is only efficient for light gaming. It runs CS (1.6) at 1280x1024 and Warcraft 3 1280x1024 with everything on medium. NFSMW plays at 640x480 with everything on low. Since a GTO is only 140$, I'll be getting that, which will be a major step up from the integrated GPU.

wow! sorry to hear about that. i've been playing hl2 and grand theft san andreas with very little difficulty (san andreas has sound issues that are partially solved by turning down the sound acceleration)
tried running everest or dx diag to determine the cause? turn down the sound acceleration for sure?
lemme think over it
oh nm! playing cs at 1280? what onboard video gone do that steadily? dats good...

so what do you guys think is the best card you can throw in this 1710 w/o upgrading power supply?

i currently have a xp1600 oc'ed w/ Ti4200 1 gig ram, and this 1710 upgraded to 1 gig ram dual channel, what would be my best options to have 2 computers? 1 for A/V hometheater type, 1 for gaming.

Well, if everything works out as planned, I just got an X850XT PCI-E for free, so no more onboard crap for me...

Wow, nice. Did you win a contest, or do some armed robbery? =) Congrats either way.

You may still have to do a PSU upgrade, blowing the $300 budget.

Long story, but at the end, I get the X850XT :) (I didn't steal it or anything... ). I got the PSU awhile back at Fry's when it was on sale. Antec 400W (450?) for a killer price, making the total still under 300$... Heck, I got the HD for -11$ (hehe...) AR and as for my CDRW and DVD, I got those FAR (few BFriday's ago). As long as people are patient and don't need the top graphics and resolutions, they too can build a decent computer for cheap.

Once I get the tracking number tomorrow, victory will be mine!!
