No, I'm pretty sure the chipset came out in late 2004 and MSI is the ONLY one. . . its a shame it never really took off. . .

I'm happy to tell you that I'm writing this reply on my new MSI RS480M2-IR that I installed last Wednesday. This particular board is loaded with features and is a very stable platform for a value-oriented Athlon 64 socket 939 system.

The Radeon Xpress 200 integrated graphics processor is hands-down the best on-board video chip I've ever seen, as well. Full DX9 support and very playable framerates for all but the absolutely most demanding games as well as terrific hardware assist for DVD playback are all welcome surprises.

Several other motherboard vendors have products anounced that haven't come to market as of yet:

Gigabyte's GA-K8A480M-9
ECS's RS480-M
TUL's A480A7
Sapphire's A56
ASUS' A8AE-LA

As we've seen repeatedly over the last few months, announcing a new product and actually delivering it to market are two entirely different things.

Judging from the MSI RS480M2-IR's initial stability and value, I think the Radeon Xpress 200 chipset has a very promising future ahead of it. OEMs should be snapping these boards up for inexpensive, high quality Athlon 64 builds.

The MSI RS480M2-IR is a fantastic motherboard for anybody who appreciates quality and value. If you're not an overclocker and you don't consider spending $1250 for a motherboard, 2 video cards, and a 530-watt power supply to be a good investment, the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 platform deserves a serious look.

thanks for being the only person on the forum that has posted anything about this very interesting chipset.

i would like to know how the last two months have been using the system.
i'm considering building a system for a friend using it. it won't be overclocked and i want it to have as many features and upgrade-ability, but mostly i want to know that it will be stable and i won't be making a system that i'll have to support in the future. (much)

thanks alot

Or just search for RS480. There are other threads. It seems motherboards based on these chipsets have been delayed (and delayed and delayed). Newegg now lists 2, the MSI board, plus an ECS board.

Personally, I am holding out for one with the ATI SB450 southbridge. It supposedly fixes a buggy USB implementation among other things from the original SB400.
