ATI X850XT overkill for AMD1800+?

Been out of the CPU/Mobo tech for about a year, and I must say I am quite behind. I just installed Half Life 2 Lost Coast and I get about 15 fps. When I played HL2 on this same system, I was getting 50 fps so I guess Lost Coast is harsher on my gpu.

I have an 1800+ overclocked to 2000mhz and I am wondering if jumping in on the Microcenter $299.99 + $50 MIR AGP X850XT will be a waste. This card seems to perform quite a bit better than my R9800pro 256MB but, all the benchmarks are on A64 systems.

If I were to buy this card, would I not get the +50fps + AF/AA benefits due to my Socket A setup?

Thanks for your help!

P.S. This is strictly for 1920x1200 gaming. CS:S, HL2 and Warhammer are the only games I play right now.

System:
1800+ @ 2000mhz
2x 512 PC3200 2:2:2
R9800pro 256MB w/ ZM80D cooler (420mhz core, 365mhz mem overclock)
SB Audigy 2zs
ABIT NF7-S v2.0

swap in a mobile athlon xp or barton chip and overclock the hell out of it so the 850xt (formerly 800 xt pe) will be more of a match. your board should easily handle it.

you can then expect 60-120 fps depending on the scene and map with AA&AF enabled at 10x7.

i dont know how it will perform at 1920x12 though

I wish I had jumped on it earlier, but now the mobile bartons are not as easy to find. I think Excaliberpc used to sell them exclusively. :(

So, the 1800+ clocked at 2000mhz aint gonna cut it ehh?
I might be able to squeeze 2200mhz outta it but at the expense of +0.35 Volts and 15C :(

Is there a Socket A Sempron equivalent?

You need a new mobo, processor and GPU if you are thinking of gaming at 1900x1200.

A lot more.

I dunno, CS:S I get 50fps with minimum 28fps usually.

Edited first post to show overclock of 9800pro

If you do decide on a Socket A Sempron, the 2800+ is 2.0GHz, with a DDR333 FSB like all SktA Semprons. There is also a 3000+ in Socket A, in fact I think there are two. One is a "Model 8" core (T-Bred B) and one is a Model 10 (Barton core). I believe both are the only SktA Semprons with 512KB L2 cache.

I have a 7800GTX and it has problems gaming at 1920 X 1200 and this is with a X2 4400+ at 2640! You will need more than an AMD XP at 2000 and a X850XT to game at this resolution.
