ATI X800 XTPE problem.

When I'm playing BF2, the fan on my X800 XTPE starts to spin faster making a louder noise than it should. This was the refurbished one for $221, so has anyone else been having issues like these? Should I just get another cooler for it instead of the stock?

Sounds like it is heating up. Make sure your case has good ventilation. And thanks for the info - as mine has not been shipped yet. If too many have noise issues, I may just cancel.
 
Well its kind of supposed to do all that. If the noise is louder than you think it should be, the fans bearing could be going.

Yeah, if you use ATI Tray Tool you can set the fan speed to whatever you want. But I recomend leting it spin as fast as it can when it gets hot.

k, cuz its not that bad, it just gets on my nerves a little bit.
 
my X800XL is set in ati tools to speed up the fan as temps go up..this is normal..just preset to fixed lower speed
 
set your fan so its at 80 per cent at 50 deg then,90 per cent at 60 deg, if it goes over 60 and in some 3d games like bf2 bfv etc etc it will wind up, thats your gpu crankin, if it goes over 60 you NEED it at 100 per cent , put up with noise, or fry your gpu , the only other thing is like my x800 S the fans get mucky fast, open get a SOFT toothbrush and clean fan , use a mini vac to suck dust up.
The x800 range has 12 or 16 pixle pipes, and with a touch overclocking they add alot of heat to the chip...
KEEP IT COOL.

Sounds like you need better case cooling. If that doesn't cure it, an aftermarket cooler like an Arctic Silencer 4 rev 2 will keep it quiet (but also void your warranty).
 
sounds like its getting to hot and needs to be cooler so the fans start cooling this is normal you must have some bad airflow get the zalman cooler or artic cooler that should take care of your problems.

this sounds like good advice to me.
keep the cooler they provided you, so you could RMA if necessary later.
I hate the sound getting louder and quieter, too.
just pick a speed and stick to it.

That sounds like violating the RMA policy. If you mod it and then RMA it you just did something illegal.

Get a nice new cooler and ditch the old one, there wont be any use for it.

How is your case set up for cooling? ie - number of fans, placement (front, back, side, blowhole, etc), size of fans (80mm, 92mm, 120mm, etc).

Personally, I would much rather increase my case cooling and keep my 3 year warranty than mod the card with an aftermarket cooler.

one fan in the back, 2 in the front. 80mm and 92 I believe.
