Ati X800 XL in Dell 4700?

Does anyone own a Dell 4700 and was able to install an ATI X800 XL into their system? Right now I'm using the X300 SE card and am thinking of upgrading. I went and researched it a little bit on the Dell video support forums and it seems a lot of people have had problems installing the X700 and nvidia 6600/GT cards into their systems, where the computer wouldn't boot up afterwards. The problem couldn't really be narrowed down.. some think it's temperature, BIOS, power supply, or cause PCIe is just new technology with some bugs in it. I know some of you guys probably own a 4700 from all the deals lately, so has anyone had any success installing an ATI x800 XL into their system? If not, what are some compatible video card alternatives I can use to replace the X300?

I just purchased the 4700 and I would like to know as well!
Supposedly there was a new bios released early on that
resolved this problem?

I think the problem you could run into is that the 4700 has a 250 watt power supply i believe, if not it is 300 watts max. That is the only problem I see with that. DOnt worry about opening the case either, Dell will not void the warranty, infact you can install ram of another brand and it will not void it either.

😉I have a Leadtek 6600GT running in my 4700 without any problems. The PSU is rated at 305W mean (not peak), so you should be fine with that.

But I WOULD recommend adding one or more extra fans to circulate in the case. I added a dual PCI fan card blowing right onto the video card (like maybe 1/2 inch apart) with a variable speed. The case is not the best designed by Dell, and only has the PSU exhaust fan (besides the CPU monstrosity sink/fan combo). If you can get extra circulation from adding fans it will go a long way to ensure problemless running.

BTW, you will NOT void your warranty by adding/removing/upgrading parts inside your Dell. Of course, if said new addition has problems you're on your own to sort it out!
