The short of my problem is, the ati X700 pro [pcie] I have is loud. Too loud. Apparently I'm not the only person to comment about this as some review sites mention it as well, basically stating that "The idle level is around 61.3 DB while the X700 Pro under load comes in at 65.4 DB ." from http://www.neoseeker.com/Artic...eviews/x700pro/10.html

What can be done? Any other X700 users have a problem with the loudness? I'm looking into getting a ati silencer 1 , which the artic cooling website says is compatible with the x700 cards. Any comments on the merits of this idea? Will the silencer 1 make a marked difference in noise, while keeping the same gpu performance levels?

I have the 9800Pro and I know it was way too loud. I replaced that with a VGA Silencer Rev3 and it's bliss.

I think all high powered video cards suffer from loudness. Not too surprising since these things generate an insane amount of heat. I'm not sure if the ATI Silencer 1 is gonna work on the X700 or not. (it's PCI-E right?)

According to people that have used both the new Zalman VF700 active GPU cooler cools better and produces less noise the VGA Silencer.

i use the Zalman ZM80D. It was a bitch to install, but it is nice. I placed a panaflo L1A 80mm on it at the lowest voltage it could start up on and there the noise is below my noise floor.
