the interesting part is, even at lower clocks it still managges to comes within a few fps of the x1900xt 256 interesting. and it consumes 65 less watts at load than a single x19050xtx.

ps. is it possible to use crossfire on a nf4 sli mobo. i know it should not be but could there be a mod that alows it ?

i though so. but those cards are mighty tempting to go crossfire on considering you don't have to worry about master card.

when will a company develop a mobo which can do Xfire and SLI????

The problem is that nvidia won't build one which is Xfire compatible and ATI won't build one which is SLi compatible and now with all these aquisitions by Intel and AMD neither of them will wanna do it either...so as usual, the end-user is screwed...

Edit:...maybe VIA...or SIS...

I though this card was supposed to debut @ $200? Rippoff!
Anyway, is the new cooler a big improvement over the old single slot cooler? It better be.

Power consumption with the 80nm die shrink is quite impressive. Under load the Radeon X1950 Pro manages to consume a mere 225 watts?54 watts less than the Radeon X1900XT 256MB. While the Radeon X1900XT 256MB delivers more pixel shading power, the Radeon X1950 Pro offers slightly better performance-per-watt in gaming.
. . .
Pricing for the upcoming Radeon X1950 Pro is unknown at the moment, unfortunately. Nevertheless with the Radeon X1900XT 256MB carrying a $279 MSRP, it wouldn?t be too surprising to see the Radeon X1950 Pro slotted below in the $229 or $249 price bracket.

How would this compare performancewise to my x850xt? . . . IF it comes out in AGP.

it'll be quite a bit faster than a x850 considering its only a few fps slower than x1900xt 256. and i bet its faster than a single 7900gt too (non OC'd).

hmm.. i wonder how well this thing will OC.

it really looks like a 'cheap' AGP upgrade for me
[$249-$100 for my x850xt = $150 Max]

IF it is at least 50% faster . . . i might actually feel 'good' about holding off on my rig 'makeover' this [next] Fall.

Has ANYONE had confirmation that it is gonna be an AGP part as well? I'm still pretty doubtful.

yes

well, sorta . . .
an employee at CUSA [or another retailer] reported that it is in their system as an agp part.

so . . . maybe . . . probably

i am looking at all possible 'upgrade' paths for my AGP rig to 'hold me' for gaming for another year.

when will a company develop a mobo which can do Xfire and SLI????
There already is one. The 975X chipset on the Asus P5W DH can be modded to allow SLI and handles CF by default.

At that price I could get 1 SLI mobo and one Xfire mobo

looks like ATI put the card on delay one more time ...
The first estimate was due to end of August
then September
then Oct 17th
and now end of Oct.
What would be the next estimate date?
However, nothing official from ATI for that matter as ATI never promissied deliver the card by the date - looks like marketing play.

this is today's news:

ATI "RV570" Radeon X1950 Pro Performance Unveiled
DailyTech has managed to obtain an early sample of ATI?s upcoming Radeon X1950 Pro graphics card. The Radeon X1950 Pro was expected to arrive next week, however ATI has pushed the launch date back to the last week of October.

i doubt it is delayed further if they are circulating preproduction samples to reviewers.

if it turns out to be $250 for the PCIe version, it'll probably be 50 dollars more for AGP . . . :(

i can wait ...

:p

if it will be for $250 then who will buy it , when you can get full speed x1900XT 256 for that price?

the last time x1900gt was isn't much close to x1900XT due to 12 ppl vs 16 ppl and 36 vs 48

I think that x1950pro will be about 20% slower then x1900xt, but we will see how it would be when it'll be avail.

NV set aggressive MSRP for 7900 and the price was / is around it for long time
then
ATI set MSRP no one (or one or two) will buy at that MSRP and then starts dropping retail price from that price point

NV prices were up from MSRP at release adn nothing like that as I know happened to ATI

how ppl can justify x1950pro for the same price as 7900GTO?
unless x1950pro will be as fast as 7900GTO

go figure ...

Cheap, Low power, no dongles, and just as fast as 256MB x1900xt? What's not to like...

This might be *the* card to have from ATI...

After seeing overclocking numbers it might be the best card period in mid-high segment.

Looks like it will be a great card. Soon to be low end, when the g80 comes out. This is getting to be overkill - we need software that works these cards. Anyways to appoppin - I went from a x800xtpe - agp to a x1900gt - pcie (have a dual mb) and the difference was stunning. I expected little change and was quite shocked.

The AGP ver. is $300. PCIe is probably less.

I will get the AGP ver for $300. ;)
