Ok, here's the scoop...

What PS could I buy now to support an ATI x1950 Pro AGP Card, and my P4 setup (see config below)... but would also be compatible with a future Core 2-Duo (or whatever Intel is selling in a year or 2).

Preferably, I want a quieter PSU.... that is, it can make some noise, just not be like a vaccumn cleaner.

Any suggestions?

And still be able to power a system in a year or two? Assuming you're gonna have a decent video card also, get this one: link, in case you decide you want a quad-core between now and 2009. Realize, though, that with computers it's almost impossible to predict what you're gonna need in your next system. It's really better to just buy what you require now or will require in the near future, with power supplies, especially.

welp my 5ish year old Antec TruePower 480 (1st series) was working just fine untill my kid put a paper clip in it...(he's 8).

I put a backup PS into my system but there was no video, so I put in a spare AGP card and system worked fine.... verified results in another box with the PS and then the AGP card...both are shot.

So now I'm faced with replacing my entire system, or picking up a new AGP and PSU.... I know AGP is pretty much dead, but I don't wanna upgrade just yet. The PSU I'm hoping will be able to be used in a future build.....
