ATI x1900xt speed inconsistency

I just built a new gaming rig : Abit AT8 / Athlon X2 4400 / 2Go / ATI Rad X1900XT. Concerning the ATI card, on ATI website and on the card box, the card is advertised as GPU clock of 650 MHz and Mem clock of 725Mhz x 2.

When I open the properties in Catalyst, the card seems to be clocked as GPU 500 Mhz and Mem 590 x 2... What can explain such in difference ? To reach the speed advertised, I have to enable Overdrive, which is overclocking. Nothing against that, but should n t be the speed advertised be the stock ones ? Or is it a problem with my card ?

The advertised speed is only used in 3D apps. It automatically downclocks in 2D mode.

It will say Target speed or core and that is the speed the card will hit when running a 3d app.

The current speed when you view through cat is the current 2d speed.

If you switch really fast between your game and cat yoiu can see the speeds running at the target speed(3d speed). If you dont look quick enough it will down clock back to 2d because your in windows and not in the game.
