ATI X1900XT price drop??

Hi all,
I recently through looking at Ebay.ca and local shops noticed that the ATI X1900XT and XTX dropped in price quite nicely. I use my comp for work, video encoding/decoding and the only game I play really is Everquest. I paid a freaking $400 CAD for a 7900GT and now the x1900XT etc are as cheap and if not cheaper. Are these that great? Should I just get another 7900GT or drop that whole Nvidia thing and go for one of the ATI? I would presume the price drop is as a result of the X1950 release... which makes me rather happy. Is there a point to paying another 60$ for the XTX version or does the XT OC real nice to XTX speeds? I am blown away.. never thought I would see the 1900XT at that price. I would love to get a 7950 (SLI in one card solution) but I have heard it does NOTHING for older games like EQ. Does the 1GIG of shared mem actually count as a full GIG? I note that when I run 2 or even 3 accounts if I use my single 7900GT I at times get erroes where it tells me I have run out of video memory. I run the game at 1680X1050 on my WS 22" LCD with all goodies turned on. Would the 1GIG of 7950 goodness do anything for me.... or would the X1900XT/X do me just fine?

thanks!

Ummmmm.......IMO, I would stick with what you have. I don't think taking a big loss is acceptable.

I'm 99.9% sure the video memory is split up between the cards, just like it would be in a dual-card SLI setup.

Your video card (the 7900GT) is 256MB, right? So upgrading to a 512MB card would make some sense, especially if you're getting out of video memory errors in EQ.

You can probably fetch close to $300 CAD for the 7900GT, meaning it will only be another $100 ish to get the X1900XT 512MB, and that is a pretty decent upgrade.

Regarding XT's and XTX - don't pay the premium; from what I hear, they use the same cards exactly, and the clockspeed difference is absolutely minimal. 25MHz on the core and 50 MHz on the memory..

I think a 1900XTX may give you better performance in oblivion than a 7950GX2, becoz min fps will be higher.

100MHz on memory and it does coz some performance diff in FarCry and 3d mark 06

Have you read the OP's post? He's not looking at the X1900XTX or 7950GX2, but at the XT. Although the X1900XTX does have slightly higher minimum frames than the 7950GX2 in one or two games, the 7950GX2 is clearly the superior video solution.

I'm sorry but for those 99.9% of us who aren't multi-millionares, I'd rather take a 1900XT for half the price and 80% the performance of the 7950GX2...

Is there such a thing as a triple ditto?

Quad ditto 🙂

Dude i would just wait till end of this year for R600/G80 to come out and just get the mid range card. 7950GX is needs driver optimisation or it runs like crap on alot of game. The card still needs better Game compatibility performance issue

Like for instant in prey : http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/ati-x1950xtx_14.html the 7950GX performance is too low
I have heard people not happy with frame rate in older games with 7950GX. The card is very driver relyant

Yeah, I've heard it goes pretty far up, so I have a quadruple ditto here for ya'.

EDIT: Ah, looks like I was outposted, so I'm upgrading my quadruple ditto to a quintuple ditto.
