ATI X1900 XTX with Gigabyte DS3 and Intel E6600?

I'm kind of paranoid about my inexperience costing me several hundred dollars in the event that I buy components that don't work together. Maybe that's unreasonable. Anyhow.

I have a Gigabyte DS3 board with an E6600 that I'm currently using. At the moment I have an nVidia 6800GT. It runs just fine, but I want more.

I'm a fan of nVidia, but the (Here's the X1900XTX at Newegg.) X1900 XTX just seems like such a damned good deal! So, I think I'm going to get one. I'm going to need to upgrade my PSU, so I think I'm going to get this PSU:

Hiper 580W Power Supply

Would that work out? Are the infamous ATI driver issues worth braving for that awesome video card?

Thanks for the help!

I think that maybe the Hiper Power Supply doesn't meet the 38Amps at 12V requirement?

Output +3.3@30A,+5V@36A,+12V1@20A,+12V2@18A,-12V@0.8A,+5VSB@2.5A

Is that an issue, you think? I saw a thread about how PSU requirements can be kind of exaggerated.

Ah, cool. What power supply do you have? Do you think the Hiper I linked would be okay?

that hiper is an amazing piece of engineering and will have more than enough power. since it is SLI certified it could actually run 2 x1900's in corssfire if you wanted it to. you won't see any problems out of that one for a long time.

Sweet, thanks so much for the answer. I'll go ahead and buy the X1900XTX and that Hiper then. :D

I had the 3 parts in your title. But I recently swapped out the x1900xt, it ran fine, but I wanted more, 7950GX2.

You will be fine with the x1900xt, plenty of power.

EDIT: oh the etagen 530w can handle the power of both cards just fine, it's about 100 now I think.

EDIT 2: oops you have a x1900xtx, nm I only had the xt, why not wait till the 1950 comes out. That 1900xtx is a power hog.

Well, the X1900 XTX just got its prices cut pretty significantly, so it's relatively cheap. Do you think that it will hog too much power for the power supply I linked to handle it? My system isn't that loaded:

It's got the parts I mentioned, plus 2G of RAM, a single 7200RPM Hard Drive, a single DVD drive, 4 fans, a floppy... I think that's it.

No you should be fine with that PS, I am running a 530W and am fine, from what I heard about that PS you should be fine.
