I remember reading somewhere (it might have been a forum post, so grain of salt) that ATI's 580 based cards were launching today. Am I totally misinformed? Also, when is the next chipset supposed to launch (I also thought it was called R580)?

I have heard Monday one place and Tuesday others. I don't think anyone knows for sure. The cards themselves are already trickling out .

I am personally waiting for release version of drivers that support it, the performance results posted so far look.... curious.
 
You might want to edit your OP.

R520 launched back in - what was it, October, November. X1900XT is the R580. It launches tomorrow. That's still unofficial, I believe.

I haven't seen anything 'official', but the 'unofficial' sources (ie, the Inquirer) say it's 'officially' launching tomorrow (for what it's worth). Reviews have started trickling out, and a few places are shipping the cards already.
