ATI X1800XT VS EVGA 8600GTS OC

I just finished building a new Q6600 based rig and have to decide whether to go with my old X1800XT (256 Meg) or a new 8600GTS OC (256 Meg) that I purchased for trouble shooting purposes. I know the 8600 is DirectX 10 capable, but how do the two compare overall?
This will be running a Vista Home Premium flavor of Windows with a 22" LCD monitor.

I like to play FPS games and do recreational video editing, as well.

I wouldn't waste money on a new 8600gts. They should be equal in terms of gaming performance. They can both do Aero.

In most cases the X1800XT will be faster. In a few newer games (Crysis) the 8600GTS will be faster.

The 8600GTS really isn't a good buy because the HD 3850 is available for only a bit more and is 2X~ faster. If you already bought one, I guess there is nothing you can do, unfortunately.

I'd use the X1800XT.
