ati (x1650) drivers for ubuntu 8.10

I tried installing the ATI binary X.org driver from Add/Remove Applications.

When it reboots i get an error message. driscreeninit failed.

Can anyone tell me what I might do to fix this?

I don't know how you might fix it, but why not just use the restricted driver from "Hardware Drivers" (System-> Administration-> Hardware Drivers)?

ATI x1600pro driver failed on Mint 6 for me as well, but it worked on the 4th tried at hunting/restricted driver reinstall.

ATI Restricted Driver does not work on Intrepid 8.10
