ATI "WinME" drivers - work for Win98SE ?

I was looking on ATI's site at the reference drivers and the 9x OS listed for all of them is WinME. Has anyone installed "WinME" drivers on Win98SE? Any problems beyond normal driver problems?

I don't actaully have any modern ATI card yet (just a vintage Xpert in my old Micron P133), but might get an OEM one for a home theater PC project that would probably use 98SE instead of ME.

Officially ATi only supports Microsoft's last three OSes but I severely doubt that the Windows ME drivers won't run on Windows 98SE because both OSes pretty much use the same driver model. However very early Windows 95 versions (ie pre OSR2) might have problems.

True, 98SE vs. ME is mainly added bloatware plus system file protection, but sometimes a company will write their installer to do an OS check and refuse to run if the OS isn't on the approved list (sometimes by mistake -- some installs wouldn't run on Win2K because they saw it as NT4 without a high enough service pack).

I see what you mean and that's certainly a valid concern to have. However I severely doubt that this is the case because ATi would be alienating a whole lot of users if they did this, especially since Windows ME didn't even exists when the Radeon was released.

Try posting at Rage3D but again I just can't believe that there are no Radeon users running newer drivers and using Windows 98SE at the same time.

I plan to run Win98SE when I get my 8500DV, and I've read over at rage3d that people have been having success. So I don't see a problem with it and hopefully it will work for me as well.
