Happy :?

List RETAIL cards. With full warranties. Not open box or OEM which have little or no warranties.

You can get the HIS X1800GTO for $170 AR, and the ICEQ version for $190 AR, no need for reburbs.

Sorry , I didn't see it was an open box ;( otherwise i wouldn't have listed it

ANyways what do you mean by this "The only card worth mentioning above is the 1800XT"

Your saying that a 7600GT can beat a X850XT, X1800GTO :?
Then your very wrong

How wrong? I am pretty sure it depends on the game...

So for those of us still on AGP (and by us I mean me and Appopin as the only ones left on AGP :) ) are we going to see an RV560 based AGP card? 8TMUs /24PS would do me just fine and I'd rather stick with the better IQ and drivers than try NV with all the reports of bad 78/79 cards. If they aren't then I'm left with an overpriced NV 7800GS or a decently priced underperforming 7600GS, or the Gainward 7800GS+ if any of you European gents want to send me one ;).

If anyone knows I'd appreciate a link.

Better drivers? and there arent any bad 7800 series cards from what i know of.

How can you stick with better IQ when an X1600XT/X1800GTO will have hard time running HQAF and HDR plus AA. Also, its true NVs angle dependent AF is better than ATis angle dependent AF.

Link

The same seemed to be true when inspecting the 16x aniso images. Of course, image quality analysis is objective by its nature, but based on these images, we think the GeForce 7800 GTX has the best image quality as it relates to anisotropic filtering when standard "optimized" aniso is used.

Since the 7600GT uses same ansio of the 7800GTX.

edit - fixed link

I grabbed a Sapphire X800 GTO2 a few months back for 140 shipped and it runs 600/600 on stock cooling with a 300 watt psu no problems. You won't be suing much sm 3.0 stuff with midrange cards anyway so I really don't see a problem with last gen tech for ATI's midrange.

You're right, ATI doesn't have an exact equivalent to NV's 7600GT. If that's problematic for you, grab a 7600GT. However, ATI has plenty of competitive options both in price and performance. I think you're just getting a bit lost in the naming clutter that characterizes ATI's lineup right now.

Where does it say that in that link? All I saw when I clicked on it was the homepage for that website and not the specific article.

Last I knew ATI's AF was not angle dependent. In fact I thought it was angle independent.

HQ AF allows angle independent AF. Without High Quality option turned on, ATi resorts back to angle dependent AF.

Go read some benches, it isn't hard to figure out. The 7300GT has an easy fillrate advantage, it is basically the 7600GS equal when you shop for a card that is clocked decently and a 7600GS is the rough equal of an x1600xt. Follow?

Calling the x1800's a midrange card is a bit of joke at this point, as their power consumption is way to high for my personal tastes.

According to X-bit labs, X1800GTO power consumption runs about 48 watts at peak 3D activity, while the 7600GT is about 36 watts, so 33% more power for similar performance.

X-bit labs power consumption chart for X1800GTO, X1800XL, 7900GT, 7600GT

Or roughly the same power as a 7900GT. I wish they would have included the OC'd power usage, but it is clear that when you unlock and OC the x1800GTO to really get at its value, it will be using ~twice the power of the 7600GT and ~50% more than the 7900GT (figuring 75W peak peaking usage with an unlocked 650/1200 clocked x1800GTO.

Besides that, I am really wanting ATI to turn up the heat in the $50-$150 market where lots of cards are sold. I really just want a low power card that can give me GW 1440*900 4xAA and 16x HQ AF (lots of long distances in the game). Someday, maybe ;)

Hi,

I understand that Leadtek now has a 7600 GT, AGP card available and soon EVGA will provide this offering (any day now, I've been told), as I'm sure others will, also.

I have an agp system that suits me fine, A7N8X-DX, XP-3200+ @ 2.3ghrz, 1 gig of ram, 36 gig raptor hd and an ATI 9600pro.

I recently purchased an awesome lcd display, an LG L203wt and I'd like to increase video/graphics performance, but I spend most of my time reading text and my eyes are weakening.

My question is this: the EVGA 7600 GT, AGP, will likely make a nice upgrade from the ATI 9600 pro. However, as my main concern is text and 2d, is there any point in waiting to see what ATI will have to offer in the AGP department? Does anyone know what it will be and how it will compare to a 7600 GT ?

thanks,

John

Most likely, the 7600GT AGP card will be priced higher than the PCIE cards, so you may be looking at a $200 price range for it.

One great offering, direct from ATI, is the factory refurbed X800XL:

http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=2984012

It has a standard warranty, VIVO, and should perform the same or better than the 7600GT. A great card for $119. The X800XL is a 16 pipe card with a 256-bit memory bus. It should be faster than the 7600GT in most games. It lacks SM3, but you can't do much with SM3 at this price anyways.

kmmatney,

thanks for the heads up the 800 card. From the reviews I read, they're comparing it to the 6800 and I thought the new 7 series cards were a cut above? Also, the EVGA 7600gs, sells here, in Canada, for $158 and I didn't think the GT version would be that much more.

I'm not overly concerned about price because I've decided to keep this system for a couple more years and would like the best out of my new display.

Having said all this, do you really think the X800XL is the way to go, given it's at least two years old?

thanks,

John
