My MB is a Soyo kt600 Dragon Plus
Hi!
I recently bought an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128 MB) card off Ebay (I'm poor). Anyways, I got it and it suffered from random failures. Most often it would just shutoff and my Monitor would enter the hybernating mode (whatever that is called) indicating the video card stopped outputting a signal and apparently the rest of the computer froze too (keyboard doesn't respond when caps lock is tapped). This generally happened if I played a game or when I was using Maya. Another failure that happened was that hardware render mode would fail and the comp would switch to the incredibly slow software rendering mode.
I attributed all of this to the fact that the card was probably defective. So I shelled out the cash for a FireGL z-1 128 (again, money issue). I wanted a Workstation card and this was the most I could afford. Anywho, I plugged that in today and was fooling around in Maya when the exact same thing happened. The screen turned black and I had to reset.
I have the latest video card drivers. Do I need to upgrade my BIOS? (PLEASE say no.). I'm not a hardware person so info could help me. I'm probably going to install a newer version of the VIA 4 in 1 driver, but if there is anything else I should do first or after I would like to know.
And I have been googling, the only thing I found was raising the voltage of the AGP slot, but before I go toying with those settings I wanted the advice of you proffesionals. 🙂
Thank you!
