ATI Video card model numbers

Hi All!

Ok..I'm a bit confused with ATI's 9000 series model numbers. They have SO MANY out now, and I'm confused because of the Pro and standard versions.

Tell me this: in general, the higher the number, the faster the video card? So 9800 > 9700 > 9600 > 9500 > 9200 > 9100 > 9000 > 8500...right?

And how does being a "Pro" version affect this? Is a Pro version about the same as one model number higher? So a 9600 Pro is about the same as a 9700? Or is it better/worse?

Help...confused! I'm trying to figure out if it's worthwhile to switch from a GeFore Ti4200 128MB to a 9600 Pro.

You missed the 9700 Non-Pro. I was under the impression that the 9600 Pro > 9500 Pro at stock speeds. Only reason 9500 Pro was better was because it was moddable to a 9700 Pro with half the pipelines. I hope we are talking stock vs stock comparison.

9500 pro is better than 9600 pro becuase it has 8 pipelines as opposed to the 4 the 9600 pro has. actually, it is only the 9500 that can be soft modded not the 9500 pro

yes, however the 9000 pro is considered faster then the all of the 9200s because of clocks, and 9100s whic are super clocked down, a 9100 is about as fast as a 9000 standard.

I thought the 9600XT was supposed to be the first "mainstream" chip that was faster than the 9700 Pro... maybe i'm making that up though...

they did say that, but thats also hard to believe. A 200$ card that comes with a free game better then a 9700pro which costs more then that(don't feel like looking it up) so i would doubt it's faster then a 9700p, i would recon it's faster then a 9500p or a 9600p however.

thats what i heard as well but i dont see it happened unless it has all 8 pipelines
