As a long time lurker of the Anandtech forums, I came across a post about a class action lawsuit against ATI.

I qualified, so I signed up, thinking I would get a coupon or something stupid.

June of 2009 rolls around, and I get a check for $172.20, saying this is my settlement amount for the class action lawsuit against ATI.

Today I got a plain white box in the mail, from some place I have never heard of before. Inside was a Sapphire Radeon 4650 512MB PCI graphics card, with a note saying this is my settlement for the class action lawsuit against ATI.

lol

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to the Anandtech forums for keeping me up to date.

I am really sorry, I thought I was posting this in the Video Cards and Graphics forum, as this is not a hot deal.

Did I qualify? I heard nothing about this. :hmm:

Damn.

Chances are you did if you bought an ATI card between 2002 and 2007. I think I received a check for $300-350 last summer. You had to purchase the card directly from ATI's website (shop.ati.com).

The deal is they made false claims about their products. That's a no-no.

Looks like nvidia did basically the same thing, not sure if they got a lawsuit filed against them though.

Haha, wow really wish I knew this...reading the info on that page during that time span I was heavy into my PC building and bought the following (all from ATI.com as I preferred the Built by ATI models)

Radeon 9700 Pro
Radeon 9800 Pro
Radeon 9800 XT
Radeon X800 Pro
Radeon X800 XT AIW
Radeon X1800

Well, maybe not the 9700 Pro during that time frame, but definitely the others. I still got a few of them (I do handy-me downs, I don't resell.)

No wonder the prices on 4650/4670 skyrocketed in the past few months. They were mining them for the settlement, leaving a big glut in the channel and causing the price to go up!

So did any of you actually needed the HDCP feature or at the very least knew they were supposed to have them and were in the very least deterred that they didn't?

Because if you didn't, what you're doing is pretty opportunistic and un-dignified.

Only as undignified as ATI were while making false claims. Yes, it might be a little opportunistic, but ATI only had themselves to blame.

Got a card in the mail yesterday too. Never got a check though. Probably because I didn't buy the BBA card directly from ATI.

Took long enough - been at least a year since I sent in the claim form.

I got the check last year. But I have moved several times, I wonder if the card is sent to my old address!
