Has anyone had any experiences that would lead them to think that a Powered by ATI video card (uses ATI chipset but not actually manufacturered by ATI) is less dependable than a video card that was actually built/manufactured by ATI ?
Of course not. Sapphire is just as good as ATI if not better. HIS is great too due to their insane heatsinks. Other than that, all vid card manufacturers are about the same.
EDIT^ both ATI & Sapphire use ATI gpus and they are by far the best two ATI chipset vendors.
Should be fine too. Its not like one is better than the other. All that happens is maybe with sapphire your could get an extra ~5 mhz on your cpu/ram. Other than that the difference will be less than .5 of a frame per second.
BBA and Sapphire are equal in quality IMO. Other Powered by ATI brands (especially HIS) are still pretty good. I'd stick with BBA and Sapphire personally.
I can vouch that Sapphire makes cards for ATi is I have both a Sapphire x800pro ViVo and an ATi-branded ( with a small ATi sticker ) x800xt pe. The Product Numbers printed on both cards are IDENTICAL. As a matter of fact, these two cards are identical in components and layout as well.
Just stay away from the Asus X800XL, its memory is underclocked by 10mhz...which would explain why I am getting less fps/3dmarks compared to other x800xl.
