Current System:
P4 2.26

Ti4200 128MB

I want to add quality TV-IN to my pc to archive my home movies to DVD. I was looking at the following product.

-ATI TV Wonder VE Remote Control Edition $72

What does everyone think? Can I add a PCI version of the All-In-Wonder VE, 9000Pro, etc. and would these be better?

Thanks,
-JC

I am looking into PCI TV cards myself. My only concern with the TV Wonder line is the drivers/utilities. The TV Wonder products use MMC 7.9, but the latest is 8.5. This is the reason I am considering running a AIW VE PCI with a higher performance AGP card.

I can't speak for the TV wonder VE, but I do own an AIW 9000 and a standard ATI TV wonder. The only difference I am aware of between the VE and standard versions of the TV wonder is the standard has s-video in and stereo out. At any rate I am using an amplified antenna, but I still have poor signal quality on several stations. The picture quality is fine on both the AIW 9000 and the TV wonder when tuned to channels with good signal quality. The AIW 9000 with its digital comb filter improves the overall picture quality by removing snow and consequently looks better than the picture on the TV wonder. At any rate the TV wonder is a fine product if you are using analog cable or you have good reception from an antenna. However, neither performs very well when reception is poor. When the signal quality is poor the AIW 9000 loses vertical and horizontal hold and the TV wonder repeats old frames. This only happens when the reception is really bad and should never happen with analog cable. The AIW 9000 uses the same video decoder as the AIW VE, AIW 9700 and AIW 9800, so results should be comperable.

MeltedRabbit - Welcome to Anandtech.

How about the video in quality? Can you give us an idea how good this would be on the VE (want to get VHS/8MM put on DVD-R)?

Thanks,
-JC
