What do you mean "when i turn on my second monitor"? When you power it on? That is weird.

i apologize for the bad wording. i mean when i enable the "extend my desktop to this display adapter" in display control panel, the ATI tv just turn black, but i continue to hear the sound.

any ideas?

thanks

I have ATI cards in both of my systems and both systems have secndary monitors. They both work fine (TV/Video display) when secondary monitor(s) are enabled.

My advise is to make sure you have all the latest drivers.

Have you tried playing with the monitor refresh rates?

Looks like you have a dual boot system? Does the problem persist in both O/Ss or is it native to only one? I hear that Win2000 doesn't support multimonitors very well.

BTW, which ATI card are you refering to? No mention in your sytem rigs!

i have the all in wonder radeon 7500. i am not dual booting, just running winXP Pro. it seems to have fine dual monitor support, but i just have no idea why the video cuts out when i enable the second video card. i have not tried messing w/ the resfresh rates, i will do that. i do have the latest drivers.

i'll get back to ya tonight after i try lowering the refresh rate.

thanks

I have a TV Wonder on dual displays as well. Are you trying to watch TV on the secondary monitor? IME, it will just show a black box because many cards do not support hardware overlay on the secondary screen. However, I'm using a ATI Xpert 98 (RageXL) and it works fine as the secondary screen.

i am not trying to watch it on the second screen, although that would be nice. i probably need it to work on the first screen before it will work on the second right?

any other suggestions?

Have you tried moving the TV window to the second screen when you activate it? Maybe you have the primary and secondary monitors switched so when you activate the second monitor it changes the first monitor to secondary, which will not display overlay. You can see which is which in the display properties window by clicking on the identify button.

i hit identify and the "1" is the one w/ the black tv. it is also black on the other monitor. but as soon as i turn off the "2" by unchecking "extend my desktop" then it works fine.
crazy stuff.
