ATI Tray Tools and no CCC installed?

Hi all,
I have been running my ATI X1900XT using ATI Tray Tools with the latest ATI drivers (just the drivers and not the CCC part). Reason for this was that I reformatted recently and installed my XP pro fresh. Then when I went to download the full ATI Drivers including CCC, and I installed it, it crashed. It managed to install the drivers at some point but it would boot up with some message each time saying that the CCC was messed up and I could never access the CCC panel and I had to uninstall that completely.

I tried installing all the patches for windows before I installed these drivers -- and I think Framework was installed. Still no matter what I tired I could never get it going so I just installed ATI Tray Tools with the basic drivers from ATI.

Now my question is I recently got a second card... the crossfire master. Do I need CCC to be installed and working well to use Crossfire or can it work with just the basic drivers and ATI Tray tools. OR any ideas as to what I did wrong and how come the stupid CCC won?t install? What do I have to make sure is installed on a fresh install of XP Pro in order to ensure that CCC full with driver set will install? And what ever I am doing wrong I am doing it twice as my dad?s computer is the same ? I cant get the CCC installed.

Thanks!
Bob

Use Driver Cleaner to ensure you really wiped everything. The failed install or uninstall may have left something behind that is preventing it from reinstalling properly (stupid, I know, but it's really really hard to test every possible failure case of a borked driver install.)

doh! yah might just have to do that. Again was wondering what I need to have pre-installed before I install CCC/drivers. Apparently I am doing something wrong as with 2 fresh installs in both cases it failed to work properly.

Anyhow have any ideas in regards to the other question whether I need the full ATI CCC installed to use/enable Crossfire or if ATI Tray is good enough?

Remember when you reinstall OS , make sure you have DX9C installed , XP SP2 installed , .net framwork 3.0 installed. Then install ATI latest driver with CCC
