Well I'm mostly interested in the R423/X880XT.I'm curious to see how will they perform.
Good to see though that ATI will provide the market with a variety of pci-e solutions.
My next gpu upgrade will surely be based on pci-e,regardless if I choose to upgrade now or wait for the next gen of cards.

IMHO, These guys need to concentrate on getting the parts out that they launched last month instead if of launching new products only compatible with other products that also don't exist yet.

The X800 Pro is out in limited quantities. Compusa lists it as a pick-up only item, but when I check for stock within a 20 mile radius of where I'm at none of the stores has it in. I know some people have actually gotten this card, but it still remains fairly elusive. In addition, my statement applies to both ATi and nVidia. Not sure how wanting them to make products they launched a month ago widely available makes me a fanboy of anyhting, except maybe widespread availability of the new cards.

I don't though... Especially, not at the prices that most places are charging. I was simply using this as an example of the availability. My point is that I don't see the sense in paper launching a new product when the last one they announced is not even widely available. This applies to any manufacturer of any product. IMHO, PCI-E will oinly be relevant with next year's chips, so I'm not all that gung-ho about it. Sure, a step forward in technology is cool, but they should get the current stuff out first. Besides, an X300 or X600 (PCI-E or AGP) doesn't excite me very much anyway. I don't foresee anything less than an X800 gracing my rig.

By the way, it looks like MSI is getting ready to launch the GeForce PCX5750, which is the PCI-E version of the FX5700, and I'm not very excited about that either. I would rather see 6800 Ultras on the shelves.

It looks like this benifits Intel. A little product placement attached to ATI's product to get people excitied about upgrading their motherboards.

Has Intel even released the chipset that has PCIE support?

If not then it sounds like a total waste of time.

I'd liek to point out that the Nf3-250 has native support for pci-e, motherboard manufacturers will start to make the boards when the boarsd slots have something available to put in them. why build a motherboard with video slots that are useless, teh same goes with the cards. The support fors the cards is there so them make the cards then mobo maufacturers will make the boards.

Why are they releasing new PCI-E cards if there are no motherboards with PCI-E slots currently on the market?

And also, advertising a new line of graphics cards with the new slots gives the market a stronger incentive to upgrade. This is as opposed to relasing the boards and chipsets and expecting people to buy them because they are new.

good question

Intel is likely also "launching" (although it's unclear when the boards will be in anyone's hands) their PCI-E motherboards at Computex. They're definitely expected out in June, and they've said basically that they're switching completely over to it by the end of the year.

So it's not as ridiculous as it may sound. As others have pointed out, it may spur the motherboard manufacturers to get their act together if there are actually PCI-E graphics cards available...

It's about time for new Intel chipset chipset motherboards to be released. 865PE is kind of boring now :)

True, but a chicken with an AGP slot as well as PCI-E makes more sense than a PCI-E egg...
