Interesting how their report of the high yeild R480 and the implication that the X850 XT will be readily available is quite different than the AT report from CES.
Given that we have yet to see any cards from the "shinily shipping R480" I wonder just how soon an AGP version will be available.
Personally, I believe AT over INQ, but hopefully INQ will be right for once and we will axually be able to see some of these cards soon (in either AGP or PCIe versions).
Right now, I just want ATI to get some of the X800XL cards out.
I've checked out of this generation completely. I beat HL2, Doom3 and Far Cry on my X800 Pro before selling it. They were fun, but I'm not really looking forward to any games for the PC anymore. 9500 non pro for me now
It feels good not having to worry about missed release dates .
I find it interesting that ATi is still going to produce an AGP variant of their newest top end card. There have been a number or people saying that AGP is dead, and that the only way to be ready for the new top end cards is to go ahead and take the PCIe plunge. Well, it's nice to see that this isn't the case yet. PCIe certainly is the future, but with the slow increase in cpu speeds lately, I'm glad that I won't have to upgade by motherboard just to step up to the latest gpu.
Yeah, AGP is far from dead. PCIe is barely alive. How many _decent_ (not X300 or PCX5x00 or 6200) PCIe video cards can be found? It's stupid. They want people to take the plunge but can't supply what they need. Can it be that hard to make a (let alone BRIDGED) PCIe card? I mean wtf is wrong? It's just a different connector and a few different signals, right? They even cripple their high-end cards in their PCIe variants like the GeForce 6800 which has 700 MHz memory instead of 800MHz (AGP) I believe. Plus it costs $50 more and worst of all CAN'T EVEN BE UNLOCKED (a must for enthusiasts)! :disgust:
