ATI to copy the GX2?

ATi always managed to 'catch up' to nvidia -- even when nvidia had a HUGE lead ... as with SLi ... i can't imagine DAAMiT fairing ANY worse.

I dont see how ATi is copying nVIDIA, but rather Sapphire copying Asus and XFX for desiging dual GPU on one PCB concept. Remember the 6800GT Duo created by Asus? This is the same concept except using a mid range chip to do it.

Whats the point when a single X1950pro would probably beat it.

nope sapphire did one better than asus. cuz this cards will work on a non-xfire mobo as well

what point to pay $300 - $400 for DX9 card where 8800GTS in that price range and it's DX10?

if x1950pro would be dx10 then yes, otherwise?
who is going to buy it?

Looks like someone never read about R600 rumors and dates.
 
That original concept came from Voodoo and ATi Rage Fury Maxx years ago, since is not something propietary nobody copied nobody. The rumos of ATi chips running in Quad Crossfire dates from a year ago, the infamous Gemini Board based on the X1600 PRO GPU.

And even before then there were multi chip graphics cards made for specialty applications like commercial flight simulators and the like.

 
The funny part is if you look at the fps in the screenshot, the dual x1950pro gets 17 fps in the same part where a single x1900xtx gets 27 fps. Sounds like only one gpu is doing all the work on that card.

Yep, I remember reading about ATI multi-chip/multi-card solutions used for Canadian flight simulators years ago.

These solutions are always boring because they never bother to put topend cores.. I mean for crissake atleast use XT chips. The savings in power draw doesnt measure to the performance lost by using x1900pro gpus.
