ATI to ATI, just swap cards?

They are unified drivers, so why would I need to do any additional steps?

Please no "Dude, reformat and reintall XP, you have too!" replies.

I swapped a 9200 for a 9600 a while back. When I booted into windows next it recognized the card and used my existing drivers automatically, I didn't have to do anything. So you should be fine.

Just to be safe i would just reinstall the drivers. It shouldnt be a problem just to switch but hard is it to remove driver clean then install. I would just play it safe and uninstall.

What if monkeys flew out of you ass? Are you just trolling?

You're the one asking the question, you get to bitch about peoples' answer after they give it, not before. It's always a possibility that a hardware swap will require a reinstall. Happened to me not too long ago.

You're correct.

Same series card on same operating system and you shouldn't have any problems.

Bios of new card will communicate with existing driver for proper recognition.

Based on my understanding of unified drivers, their setup file includes all of the supported cards' drivers, but when you start the installation it detects your specific video card and installs the appropriate drivers for it, meaning it doesn't install the drivers for all ATI cards (ranging from Radeon DDR through Radeon X800 XT PE), so you'll have to reinstall the drivers when you swap your ATI with an ATI, but maybe cards from the same series (9600 series, 9800 series etc..) don't need driver reinstallation, and there's also the possibility that Phoenix mentioned.

No need to reinstall drivers. Way back when, i would be swappin my 9000 pro and 9600 pro for benchies and not have to reinstall drivers at all.
