zoom in so i can actually se quality differences, as far as i can see, the ati capture is just slightly darker/oranger text, also add in movies and tv for a better rounded review..

That is the resolution they are captured at. I will probably get around to picking apart the pictures and stuff, but just looking at them the ATi is much more crisp on the colors.

*What decoder are you using for the cards?
*Test with different inputs..including the tuner.
*try different types of scenes
*Link compressed JPEG pictures to actual PNG screenies.

decoder?? What do you mean?

I'll probably do more stuff with it, but this is just a quick comparison.

I know there is some type of dvd disk out there that you can use to test capture cards, I'll have to try and get one of those.

I also have another capture device on my main video card (radeon x600xt) I'll try to add that in there too.

The Theater 550 requires a DVD decoder to display the TV. I'm not familiar with the Avermedia Card.

The decoder used can affect the PQ, so all software used and the settings should be stated when comparing the picture quality so that its clear how its being compared.

That's a nice start with the 2 cards you have and I have notice a complete difference in performance with the ATI 550 PCI-e card I use depending on the software which you indeed pointed out needs some help. I've read where ATI's rlease of the MMC10 does support the 550 chipset and hopefully it will be offered to the public soon...

Another thing is that on looking @ the USB chip comparison I'm wondering why the NEC chipset isn't there as it is IMO the best offering available...never realized the ALi was that bad...
Thx and keep up the good info...

Fusion 878? I think that's a rename of the ancient bt878 chip. Hauppauge's WinTV-Go uses it, and as far as I can tell it's an upgraded bt848, which, on a side note, never had official Win2k/XP support. And the WinTV Go has been around since at least 1999.
As far as I know, the bt878 was meant for budget boards.

Theater Pro, hell, it just looks newer. BGA package too.

I don't suppose you've got a WinTV PVR-250 or 350 laying around, or any other TV tuners? :)

Nice comparison though. Sure does show the difference.

Oh, I should have said that as well. There are far too few actual comparisons of TV cards availble, especially considering their popularity. Thaks and by all means keep it up!
