ATI still ahead in image quality for media playback?

Why don't they take a video with known RGB values and do a comparison that way? Just guessing what the image is supposed to look like doesn't always work. The Nvidia image may in fact be closer to the correct one. Sorry I have nothing to add, I just hate things that aren't done at least remotely scientifically. Its like those completely pointless mouse reviews: "I was getting headshots all over the place, this mouse is clearly superior than XYZ"

The ATi looks better on my CRT, and the Nvidia looks better on my really crappy TN.

Isn't it really simple to take screenshots with NO hardware acceleration, to get an image that is exactly what it's supposed to look like?

Sorry for a thread jack but I have a question remotely pertaining to this. Are C2Ds @ ~2ghz powerful enough to play Blueray without hardware acceleration? If so wouldn't it be best to turn it off as long as you don't have an Atom or something?

I've used both with a fairly discerning eye and couldn't tell the difference.

Just avoid CUDA for any transcoding needs you may have.

Edit: Also, you can't go wrong with either of the cards you are looking at for HTPC use.

I don't think so. My laptop drops a lot of frames with its CPU compared to its GPU on 1080p youtube videos. I have an i7-740m if that helps.

thanks guys, I will buy whichever is cheaper. And that will probably be the 460 especially since ill be buying in 3 weeks after the 560 launches, although that might drive 6850 prices down as much as 460 prices.
