I couldn't find a thread for this topic, so here goes:
I installed an ATI Silencer 4 on my BBA X800 Pro in preparation for flashing it to an XT PE. It seems I was lucky in that regard, since the pipelines on my card weren't even laser-cut. Anyway, the Silencer 4 definitely cools a lot better than the OEM HSF, so I'm very happy about that. But it's making a lot of noise. It isn't from moving a lot of air, it's a mechanical noise. It sounds like a hard drive that's being written to - a staccato clicking noise. I used ATI Tool to momentarily stop the fan, and the noise disappeared, so I know it's the cooler. The fan doesn't appear to be making contact with anything, so I'm afraid that the bearing or shaft mechanisms are defective. Everything I've read about these coolers rave about how quiet they are. Has anyone else out there experienced this kind of problem? What avenues are available to me as far as returning it for another one? I sent an email to AC about a week ago (the day after I installed the cooler), and they haven't replied yet. Is this what I should reasonably expect as far as customer service goes?
