ATI Silencer 3 won't fit ATI 9800 Pro 256mb

Hello,

I am trying to install an ATI silencer 3 on a ATI 9800 Pro 256mb graphics board. There are 4 posts which are supposed to align with the board to attach the cooler, but only two actually align with the holes on the board, being the two holes in which the original cooler was fitted. Has anyone seen this before?

That is indeed strange, I wonder if Arctic Cooling has changed their minds about this. It is clearly written on the packaging that came with it that it is supposed to support the ATI 9800 Pro 256mb, but on the site they are now indicating a different cooler.

I have written to them about this problem but received no response back.

It does look like that, except there are no silver radiators over the memory chips, they are just black. But the configuration is as in the picture.

Darn, sounds like it was a bit of misleading advertising. I believe their web site listed support for the ATI 9800 Pro 256mb as recently as yesterday, and as I say, the packaging does in any casel. i will have to see if they will make an exchange.

I just found this out as well. I originally bought a 3 and my fan just died (maybe a month after I got it). Upon looking for another one, I made the same discovery that you did. You need to get this one here.

Joy.

There's also some weirdness going on with the ATI Silencer 4 Rev. 2 - it was pulled off of the US market as of 5-17-05. I'm trying to figure out what's going on since I want to get one. If anyone knows what's happening, please let me know.

Don't know whats happening about the ATI Silencer 4 being pulled off the US market. Was that posted on the internet? I must have missed that.

Anyway, Micro Center still has it listed. They usually have stuff in stock. Maybe you can get one from them. They also have 6 "brick and mortar" locations. Maybe you are lucky enough to be driving distance to one of them?

Heres the link to Micro Center Online.

Look up store locations in the upper left hand corner of the Main Page under "Fast Finds". Use the "keyword" search to get to the Silencers'.

Or, if you just want to go directly to the Silencer 4 page go here:
