I recently sold a perfectly working 9800 PRO 128 BBA card and the guy(a modest trader, not out to troll me) has tried it on three different systems and it will only work at 1x AGP speed on only one of the three systems. he knows what he is doing so its not a flaw from knowledge. it worked and played PERFECTLY fine for me a day before shipping and the box did not have any damage whatsoever so we both are pretty stumped. the day before I sent it out, I checked to see what coer it was(it was 350) and took a small smudge of the compound of the core to look at it. After placing it the hs/f back on I checked on it and it worked fine then I packaged it up and shipped it off.

My questions:

I bought the card used from vonkhan(awesome trader here) back in may. will they still RMA it since I didnt buy it new?

How long does it usually take and can I get them to ship the new card first if I can get an RMA, Ive done this before with maxtor, I gave them my CC in case they didn't get the dead HD back after sending me the new one.

Will me taking the hs/f off void the RMA? I took very good care of the card(ie no volt mods, etc, all stock)

any other suggestions would be a great help.

thanks

Yeah, I think taking the heatsink off voids the RMA... ATI should have a customer service line of some sort that should be able to answer the rest of your questions~

there two push pins that hold the hs/f on, i pinched them tight enough to take the heat sink off, off for about 30 seconds, then put it back on, put it in box to test it one more time before i sent it off, worked fine.

You voided the warranty. Why do people have such a hard time getting this through their heads?

As long as it looks fine and if the heatsink is back on there with no signs of removal they will send you a refurbed card.

Just RMA it. I've RMA'd a card that was bad and I didn't need a receipt or anything.. all they want is the serial number. My friend RMA'd a card that I sold to him and they didn't give him any hassles either. As long as the card is not 3 years or older based on the serial number and it's not obvious that you're at fault for it failing you will get a new or refurbed board in about 2 weeks.

k, im gonna talk to the guy i sold it too and see if he will be cool with rma'ing it and if they say no, ill refund him but if they rma it for him, ill take care of shipping charges and send some cash for going through the rma process to make the deal atleast positive.

still waiting on a response from him if he wants to rma it.
