ATI Reference Versus Sapphire Tech Drivers

For someone with a Sapphire Tech Radeon 9000 Pro running on XP, which is a better choice in terms of performance, the ATI reference drivers(Catalyst 3.1) or the Sapphire Tech drivers(version 7.83)?

The "783" package and Catalyst 3.1 are synonymous. They contain driver 6292.

In the past, board makers were more likely to qualify and brand a chip maker's drivers but not so these days, what with homogeneous designs and Microsoft's certification process (which some companies like ATI are even qualified to do themselves).
