ATI RD600...more than just Dual 16x PCI-E?

Hello all.

Okay, have to admit, the DFI RD600 Discussion has really peaked my interest in ATI's upcoming chipset for C2D. Been researching a bit and understand that it will offer dual 16x PCI-E slots for full-speed CrossFire support. But what else is it supposed to bring to the table? Also, when is ATI going to implement their support for "3rd GPU for physics" solution? 'Cause I have this X1600 Pro laying around that would be ideal for the job...;)

Anyway, thanks for any info...damn, hoping that DFI board runs as good as it looks!

Well there are 3 pci-e slots. And overclocking FSB can be done independant of memory.(as in u don't need to OC the memory to overclock the processor)And physics on gpu will work as soon as ATI releases the required driver. And the entire board is passive cooled.Don't know if DFI will put a fan on NB though.Thats about it.

this brings up my question again...

despite x16 slots --crossfire will only run 8x, 8x as per mb specs on that thread.

question remains:... is crossfire only capable of x8, x8 ?

the thing i like about this board ...is the digital power

The number of electrical PCIe lanes is determined by the total number supported by the chipset and how the MB manufacture decides to allocate them. There are x16, x16 electrical lane MB on the AMD side of the house but for Intel the best hope are the upcoming Bad Axe2 and Nvidia 680i. There are still some rumors that the RD600 will also have x16,x16 for the two main PCIe slots and only go to x8 when all three are in use.

RD 600 has 2pci-e x16 slots.Even when in crossfire the 2 slots will run at x16 speeds.Where as the 3rd will run at x4 speed.
I'm saying bye-bye to the Rd600 anyway.I'll be gettin the bad axe 2 when it comes out.
