ATI Rage Pro VIVO

I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with the ATI Rage Fury Pro with video in/video out (video capture) and DVD playback?
I've tried 2 different cards on 3 different systems with 3 different decoder programs, all with the same result. The picture is grainy with major pixelation. I mean you can actually see all the dots in various areas of the screen. WinDVD and Power DVD also have a choppy motion to the picture, similar to when you dont enable DMA. The only drivers that work at all are the ones that came on the CD with the card. If you download the latest drivers from the ATI website and install those it creates major havoc.

Pop in an ATI expert card and load the drivers and you are back to a crystal clear picture picture.

I've tried an ATI Rage Fury Card without the video in/Video capture and that one works great also, so I'm wondering if the video capture has something to do with it.

I've been to the ATI website and dont see this listed with any of the issues they have posted about the card.

Any Ideas?

I have that card and it was a nightmare getting it all working correctly, but here is what solved my problems - everything works great now.

OK, here is a fix if you are using Win 98 or ME. It's not as convoluted as it seems..... But why the hell can't ATi get it right without making us mix'n'match drivers?????

Install the 6292 driver set from ATi's web site. Then install ATi Multimedia Center from your original CD. Don't install the drivers from the CD, just the MMC.

Download and install the 631CD25e driver set from the drivers page at Rage Underground.

After restarting your computer, copy ATI3DRAA.DLL (version 2196) and ATIMCRAA.DLL (version 3032) from ...\windows\system to a temporary location.

Reinstall the 6292 drivers.

After rebooting, copy the two .dll files you saved from the 631CD25 set back into ...\windows\system

Reboot.

You should now have flawless DVD playback, working video-in and capture, as well as excellent Direct3D and OpenGL performance.

Hey, thanks for the info! I'm glad to hear it wasn't just me having these problems. I had the card for a couple of months before I noticed anything was wrong.
Up until that time I watched DVD's by going straight out my hollywood magic decoder card to my television. After I relocated my computer to a new room I was making into an office, I no longer had the luxury of running out to the TV, so the video card became involved in the process.
When playing the first DVD with this setup, I noticed the crappy picture immediately and spent quite a few days trying various drivers and OS's with no success. Finally I gave up and went out and purchased a Matrox card and marveled at how easy it was to get a great picture then.
I still have the ATI card so, I'm looking forward to popping it in to see if I can get it to work now folowing the instructions you posted.

You would think ATI could have solved this issue or at least recognized that there was a problem and posted a solution on their website. Guess not. :disgust:
