Please check this other thread of mine.

What is going on with this card? Have you experienced the same problems? Any solutions at hand?

Overall, how pleased are you with this product?

ABIT KA7 no raid
Athlon 700 Slot A
SB Live MP3+
128MB PC133 2-2-2 Corsair Mem
Linksys 10/100 NIC
Adaptec SCSI card
HP 9200i
10x Pioneer DVD

I had that card with the above set up, it worked so so, I was able to work around some of your problems like the video capture capabilities, it happens to be that that card is exactly the same as an ATI Wonder Pro card without the TV tuner, so in teory it utilizes the same theater chip for vid out/in and DVD playback. Go to rage undergroundand search the forums for the dll missing to enable the mpeg2 and VCR2 capture capabilities.
As for the software if you can't live with the interface use the Cinemaster 2000 software, the ATI player uses that same engine, or use PowerDVD they both can use ATIs hardware dvd playback assisting.
The TV out you're going to have to live with as this card was not designed like the NVIDIA Geforce2 MX chip. It only uses the theater chip to enable tv out and this chip is a LOT better than other solutions includig quadrants and Brooktree and tvs are limited to 800x600 resolution anyway, so what you see on monitor is what you get in tv. Using the S-video out does help a lot in image quality though, bear in mind that ATIs is about the best you can get for video cards with tv out as far as image quality goes.
The reason I got rid of it was that my system was a lot unstable with this card, I changed to and Anihilator card from CL thinking that it was going to help, but it didn't til I changed some bios settings. Now my 3d graphics is MUCH better, but I sure miss the DVD playback quality of ATI.

I hope this helps :D

Sorry to hear your troubles.....

I have used one for a few months now and am completely pleased with it, albeit after quite a wrestling match with driver sets to get it all going (OpenGL, DirectX, DVD, and video-in).

"1. the card defaults my monitor resolution (currently 1024x768) to 800x600. Whenever I want to use the TV, I need to set to this resolution, because otherwise the image would "scroll" on all four sides."

That's because the TV out is limited to 800x600. Since it has only 1 rasterizer the monitor and TV have to be the same resolution. I don't find it to be a big deal to switch back and forth, it takes about 4 mouse clicks and 10 seconds under display properties to do it. Only a dual-head card will rid you of this "feature".

2. while using the TV-out, the monitor image is distorted (the picture is off-center, and there's a black bar on top of the image.)

Hmm, don't know about this, I never use them both at the same time.

3. the ATI DVD and VCD player applications are primitive and ugly, compared to the Creative player.

They work fine for me. They play the damn things, don't they? I always hide the player controls......

4. the capture is poor......

I've only used it for "quick and dirty" captures, you need the All-in-Wonder if you want MPEG1/2 captures.

5. to add insult to injury, there was NO visible difference between the 32 MB Rage Fury Pro and the 4MB Rage Pro Turbo. I tried Unreal, Quake2 and Unreal Tournament; did not check frame rates (forgot to do it), but I usually have a keen eye for things like that. No difference in textures, details or motion.

Huh??? My Rage Fury Pro took the place of a 16MB Diamond TNT1 - 3D performance DOUBLED, most definitely noticeable. Of course, there are many, many variables here.

Overall, I thought it was well worth the $90 it cost me. It should last as long as the rest of my stuff. I won't upgrade until I can replace the whole machine. (it's a classic Celeron 300A@464 setup)

jmsazul,

Will an ASUS v6800 Deluxe perform better? I think it's very similar to you Annihilator, plus the TV inputs ?

I know, the thing about details and gaming quality is at least curious... but still, it's very real - I saw it. Too bad it didn't occur to me to check the FPS rates, but I was too amazed by the situation.

Rage Fury Pro is a great deal at $90. A lot of game releases will still
run on this card with a Pentium 233MX as developers target this
as the minimum hardware configuration. Runs great under Linux and the
DVD cannot be beat....just do not expect to run Quake3 at 60 fps
at 1024.

I just did the trick to get the Rage Fury Pro to capture MPEG1 and MPEG2 video. The video capture worked fine, but there didn't seem to be any sound captured. I'll have to goof around with it a little more and I'll post all the steps I had to take to get it to work.

that's exactly what happened to me. No sound at all. Besides, I had a message saying that I only have one minute of recording (HD space-wise).

I'm still waiting to get a hold of someone at the company...

Did you look around at Rage Underground for any solution? I didn't get sound but I did get a message saying I had space for up to 3307 minutes of recording.

Playitagainsam,
To stop the 800x600 changing of resolution on bootup:
* Display Properties
* Advanced
* Monitor
* Deselect "Reset Display on suspend / resume"

This was posted on ATI's FAQ page somewhere.

Hope this helps.
