ATI RAGE 128 vs GeForce 2 MX

This is an odd question, but... I'm throwing together some parts to build a rig for a friend who's not too into computers.. I've collected a mishmash of parts from my many years of upgrades, and am basically pulling the "best of the best" (using the term "best" loosely..) into his rig. The video cards I have available are:

ATI RAGE, 128MB
GeForce 2 MX, 32MB

Obviously, there's a big difference in RAM.. but as far as how they perform, does the geforce at 32mb work better than the rage at 128mb? This would mostly be for casual usage but some (not too graphic intensive) 3d gaming.. stuff like Uru/Myst, crap like that.. won't be playing Doom3 at 1280x1024 w/ all visual effects on "high".

Whaddaya think? Which of these 3+ year old cards is the better choice?

Use the gf2. And "rage 128" does not mean it has 128mb of memory. The max memory on those cards was 32mb.

All the Rage cards were crap. Even the "128-bit" Rage Fury. So another vote for GF2MX.

edit: IIRC, the Rage 128 debuted against the TNT2.

They were actually quite good for their time. They were only slightly slower than the TNT2s.

You apparently weren't around gaming then. The Rage 128s were very good cards, and the MAXXs were the second best gaming cards you could buy at the time.

I remember waiting anxiously for the Fury to come out. It kept getting delayed and when it finally was released, there were driver problems and the nVid and 3dFx cards had already caught up. This was ATi in the old days . . . Needless to say, I was enraged and furious :p It wasn't until the Radeon 9500 that I bought an ATi product.

I dug around AT and found this old Shrimpi review of the Rage Fury Pro.
