ATI Radeons in Crossfire Question

I have done a huge amount of PC work but have never installed a dual video card setup. My son wants to add a second video card in a crossfire configuration to his AMD system. He has a HIS Radeon 5870 1 GB card. Does he have to use another identical HIS card or can he use another brand? If the other brand would work with the HIS card do the frequency specs on both cards have to be the same? And any other information any experts have concerning this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The frequency doesn't have to be the same, but it should be. You will probably run into stuttering problems or other weirdness if they have different clocks. You can always use CCC to set the clocks to be the same if they are different.

Beyond that, any other 5870 1GB card will work fine and should be pretty easy for a moderately experienced computer builder to deal with.
