reason for that is cause ati screwed up their last gen by having a bunch of X800s. It's all because the x600s and x300s sucked so much...

prices doesnt look too bad, except the competing cards e.g 7800 GT(MSRP of 449, street price 360ish) and 7800 GTX (MSRP $599 , street price 470ish) costs like 50~100 dollars less than the MSRP of its competitor i.e XT and the XL.

But kudos for ATi, finally they are releasing them!!!:beer:

Yeah but people always want the latest version of anything. The 7 series may not be that different from the 6 series, but there are a lot of tweaks there that you don't necessarily know about. So I wouldn't say it's a cunning ploy by Nvidia at all. These new ATI cards will have a lot of buzz and will probably sell like hotcakes, as long as the performance is there.

ATI only sets the MSRP . . . the vendors set the actual prices based partly on demand. Evidently, the 1800XTs will be in short supply . . . however, UNLESS they substantially outperform the GTX, demand won't be that high nor will be prices way over MSRP as only fanATIcs will buy them.

OtOH, we know the XL will be in quantity @ $449 and it is setup to go against the GT, i guess. i Believe it depends on how well it "does" as to whether it holds its MSRP.

Well of course its sepcualation, since it ISNT even released yet.
But you remember the prices for the 6800 ultras and the X800 XTs when they were released? They were being sold at 800 to 1000 dollars.

1 more week to go. And all questions will be anwsered!!

it's different now. nVidia has a top performing card available in unlimited quantities. Unless the r520 blows away the GTX, it will not command a premium [except among extreme fanATIcs] if it is short supply. . . . people will just buy the gtx.

It sounds like you are talking about a few reference cards that were availlable before stores actually got the retail cards. Were actual retail stores (online or otherwise) selling them for that much?
