ATI Radeon X1600 Pro Issues

Over a course of a few days, my GPU will no longer respond to the rest of the system, and I I happen to be using the computer at the time, the screen freezes up and the screen is filled with red dots scattered all over. After about 30 seconds, the system restarts the GPU and gives me the error (the GPU was no longer responding and was restarted). If I happen to not be using the computer at the time (ie the screensaver is displayed, I eventually come back, turn on the monitor and 'wake' the computer, and I will not get any display on the monitor. The only way I fix this is by restarting the computer. Any help would be appreciated as to how to fix this problem, I've installed the proper software that came with the CD, but to no avail, it didn't fix the problem.

It sounds as if it's overheating. Download this: ATI Tool, and see what your temps on it are. ATI Tool let's you change at what temps the fan speeds up. Here is a screenshot of the way I have mine setup: my X1600 Pro fan ettings.

If it isn't overheating, then it's because you're using the old driver. Download the newest driver from ATI's homepage, but before you do anything else, download DriverCleaner Pro, and use it to uninstall your old ATI driver, before loading the new one.

edit: Is this a new card? Because, if you don't have DirectX 9.0c loaded, you will run into that type of problem, now that i think of it.

Yeah this is a new card, but I'm pretty sure I have DirectX 9.0 on it, going to try those temp settings, when I check my temperature via the ATI software, it's usually at 50/51 C

edit: I checked what version I have, and it says "DirectX 9.0c (4.09.000.0904)"
