ATI Radeon X 1900 XTX

I have one of the last ATI cards ever made, the X 1900XTX and I am testing it out on a win7 64b machine. In 70*f ambient it can idle up to 48*c - this is not good as it is not even summer yet. I tried ATI Tool for manual fan control but it doesn't work. I looked a little more on the net for answers so I just want to throw this out there and see if anyone can throw me a hint on what to do for manually controlling the fan speed. The latest drivers that will work are 10.2 and I haven't seen an option to manually control the fan speed, although I have not unlocked the overclocking option where it now normally. Only because I didn't see it greyed out.

Any reason you want to use this power hungry, loud piece of outdated tech? Don't get me wrong, the card was great back in the day (I had a X1950XTX and loved it!), but today probably a HD5570 beats it in games... And takes a fraction of its power (and has passive versions too - no noise). And is very cheap, supports Flash acceleration and with UVD2 helps with the movies too.

Just wondering...

As for your question, since it's legacy hardware, I doubt AMD bothered to include any additional controls for the card in CCC. The only way to see is to unlock Overdrive and check yourself :p

Well, that's not actually one of the last ATI cards ever made, but it was one of the fastest DX9 cards they ever made. I have an x1900xt in a box somewhere.

Idling at 48C is fine. Those cards ran much, much hotter than modern cards. I think mine idled around 55C, with a pretty awesome cooler on it (HIS IceQ3). It wasn't a problem. Don't worry about it. You should be able to control the fan via CCC - you'd have to unlock overclocking to do so.

Not sure if 10.2 will be ideal. AMD says something on the 10.2 page about using Catalyst 9.3: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownlo...px?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.13&lang=English.

You could try using RivaTuner to control the fan - not sure if that's a supported card, though. Again, I think the temps should be fine as long as the fan ramps up with a 3D load. If not, then the driver isn't controlling it correctly.

Yeah, those old cards didnt clock down as much as modern cards. Thats why they ran so much hotter at idle.
