You can buy 64mb DDR cards too. I know because my OEM gateway VE was :)

Right...I'm trying to keep this very cheap though...I'm buying an LCD and replacing my current video card (Kyro2) for something with DVI and DVD decoding...I don't really game any more.

I would assume the ddr would whoop the sdr's ass. What good is the memory if you don't have the bandwidth to use it?

The DDR version would be faster. The pipeline is chopped to 2 with either memory version

<< .... the memory bus width is shortened to only 64-bit wide and is used with DDR memory. This gives the Radeon VE effectively the same memory bandwidth as the 128-bit wide SDR memory Radeon SDR card..... >>

It should be the same. The bandwidth on both is 64-bit. I had the Radeon 7200 DDR and it was alright. :)

Now I'm on a Radeon 32MB DDR and I can't really tell the difference. :)

I run a small semiaccurate utility on my systems and this was exactly what I wanted to know. ATI 64MB SDRAM video card got about 180-188 frames per second. ATI 32 MB DDR video card got about 184-192 frames per second. 64 meg card-$79. 32 meg DDR card-$59. The color seemed a little richer on the 64meg card, but if you're trying to keep the price down...............
BTW- the DDR card has DVI & analog outputs.

Nice, thanks. :) Yeah, the 64MB SDR version is like $1 less (retail) than the 32MB DDR at this one place I found. So it's still a toss up...I'll go with the 32MB DDR....just cuz DDR is cool.

Thanks all!

I did however find a cheap 64MB Radeon (regular...well, engineering sample) so I may go with that if it does indeed have DVI...ROCK! :)
