ATI Radeon turns off computer...

I have a Gigabyte motherboard with a 900 T-bird and 128 megs of 133 ram. My monitor is a Princeton Graphics E070 and I am using the 32meg DDR Radeon. Under win98 everything is fine until I start playing a game, then one of two things happens: my computer shuts down or just my monitor goes black and I have to restart my computer myself. This has happened in Diablo II and Tiberian Sun. Under Win2000 I was able to play Diablo II but when I exited the game, it shut my entire computer down. Any ideas what could be causing this. Every other program runs just great. Open to suggestions...

what drivers are you using? try special purpose drivers but be sure to wipe out/nuke old drivers from your hard first. Are u using Powerstrip? any irq sharing?

Mine AIW Radeon does the same thing when I try and set up the TV functions. Anyone with a clue as to what I might do to fix this? Running on an MSI 815E Pro PIII-700E OC'd to 933....

Hmmm, looks like the Radeon drivers are making hardware calls that are not compatible - 3 possible fixes: BIOS update for Radeon, New drivers for Radeon, BIOS update to mobo.

Just a thought, I wonder if this could be a refresh rate glitch between the Radeon and your particular monitor. I've not had this problem, but see if adjusting the refresh rate helps any.

Thanks for the replys guys. I am hoping it is a monitor refresh rate problem. I do have an older Princeton Graphics E070 monitor. I have a new monitor on order already, its just now I am worried that a new monitor might not fix the problem. I have the newest bios in a brand new gigabyte ZX board and the newest Via drivers. I have the problem in both win2000 and win98. I am really frustrated with this card. I have never had such problems with a video card before (and I am not a total idiot). I'll just keep trying and my new monitor should be here monday. I'll let you guys know what happens. And if anyone else has something to offer, I still open to ideas.

The blank screen problem is probably too high of a refresh rate. And I've heard of the shutting down problems, and someone said that using the Special Purpose drivers fixed them (especially the TV program shutting the computer down). So try them out if you aren't using them already.
